Remember the ice bucket challenge? How it was fun and trendy, but also worked toward a good cause and raised a lot of money? Well, there’s a new trend in town, and this one is going to create a whole new world for all of us, if done successfully! It’s called the Global Goals.
Global Goals are a challenge for all of us, for all of our politicians, and for 193 world leaders. It will span over 15 years, in order to accomplish 3 global, political, and environmental goals- “end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and fix climate change.”
Here’s how it works…
There are 17 goals in total.
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Good health and well-being
- Quality education
- Gender equality
- Clean water and sanitation
- Affordable and clean energy
- Decent work and economic growth
- Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
- Reduced inequalities
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Responsible consumption and production
- Climate action
- Life below water
- Life on land
- Peace and Justice strong institutions
- Partnerships for the goals
So how can you get involved? How can you take part?
Right now, what you can do is spread the word. Get the Global Goals as popular as the ice bucket challenge! Pick a number goal that is important to you and that you stand behind, and share it with everyone!
Once you share your number/goal, get your friends to pick one to share, as well. Spread the word! Make this campaign famous, because what will really help it work is if it gets noticed by politicians and world leaders. We need to spread the word that these are the changes we want to see, and that is how we can bring about the change we seek.
You can go here to download free packages to help you spread the word. You can also upload pictures or videos or some other way to advertise your favorite goal.
You probably heard about the Global Goals most recently through the Global Citizen Festival (which, unfortunately, I was unable to attend. But my friend went and she said it was amazing)! Or maybe you saw it front and center under the search bar on Google. Or maybe you saw it on your feed on Twitter. It’s everyone!
I can already tell that this is going to be huge. This is something that is going to make an impact and make a change. And trust me, you’re going to want to be a part of it. So pick a number (or two or three), stick with your goal, educate yourself on your local political figures and make sure that they’re educated on the issues, and get involved! Global Goals are happening, and they’re going to change the world.
