The Presidential Election: Round 12 (Rick Santorum)

Who’s left for me to write about?
Democrats- Lincoln Chafee, Jim Webb
Republicans- George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, Rick Perry, Chris Christie, Scott Walker, and John Kasich.

This week, though, I’ll be writing about a familiar candidate: Rick Santorum.

Who is Rick Santorum?
-Conservative Republican
-Senator from Pennsylvania
-Roman Catholic
-Runner up to Mitt Romney in the 2012 Presidential Election

Where does Rick Santorum stand on certain issues?

  1. Gay Rights: Believes marriage should be between a man and woman. “If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything.”
  2. Women’s Rights: Has no ideas to support women’s rights. Does not care to further women as equals in society. “What happened in America so that mothers and fathers who leave their children in the care of someone else — or worse yet, home alone after school between three and six in the afternoon — find themselves more affirmed by society? Here, we can thank the influence of radical feminism.”
  3. War: Believes ISIS is winning this war and wants to arm the Kurds and give them direct military aid so they can fight.
  4. Foreign Policy: Authored the “Syria Accountability Act” and the “Iran Freedom Support Act.” Stands by Israel and does not want Iran to have any access to nuclear weapons.
  5. Abortion: Pro-life. “I would advocate that any doctor that performs an abortion should be criminally charged for doing so.”
  6. Student Loans/Debt: Is an advocate for technical training for jobs. Is not concerned with lowering student loans/debt.
  7. Healthcare: Does not support Obamacare. Hopes to repeal it.
  8. Criminal Justice: In favor of reforming the criminal justice system. “We need to take a look at some of our laws and say, you know, do we really need to have three strikes and you’re out for certain drug crimes?”
  9. Marijuana: Does not want to legalize marijuana.
  10. Immigration: Believes there are too many immigrants. He wants to reduce the number of immigrants per year “in order to protect American workers from foreign labor that is taking jobs that Americans could otherwise hold.”

What are the highlights of Rick Santorum’s campaign?
-Economics: completely recreating the IRS and taxes
-Conservative values: protecting traditional families and unborn babies, as well as promoting adult stem cell research to fight diseases.
