Scream: Wanna Play a Game? Review

I am so hooked on this revival TV series! I only learned about it’s existence a week before the show was set to premiere. I happened upon an ad for it on the subway and was instantly interested. As soon as I got home I started watching the trailers for it and knew instantly that I would enjoy watching this. MTV drama shows are my guilty pleasure, as is. Insert horror and a beloved film into the mix and you’ve got a winner.

So far, I am completely obsessed with this show. It’s got the perfect amount of horror, gore, mystery, drama, and romance. And the writers have done a great job of stretching out the plot to last for an entire season, instead of one quick, fast-paced film. It’s also great because it gives us time to get to know and grow attached to the characters, which makes it extra devastating and emotional when a different character is killed off each week.

And I still have no idea who the killer is. Well, no. That’s a lie. I have plenty of ideas. But no sure guesses yet. So, here’s my list of characters who could be the killer. I’m also going to go ahead and assume that there are two killers working together.

Noah: Obsessed with serial killers. “Pretended” to drown to freak everyone out at the party. Disappeared during his date with Riley (RIP). Called Riley as she was dying, after the killer mysteriously disappeared. And he wasn’t too freaked out when the lights went out on the field when he went to meet Riley for their first date. I feel like the writers are making too big a deal about keeping him innocent and apart from the murders, and that it’s made a point that he’s observing the murders on the outside. Which leads me to believe that he’s really right in the middle of it all.

Audrey: The girl definitely has enough incentive. Nina posted a video of her that humiliated her. And despite caring for the girl she was kissing, she could have possibly, secretly resented her once their hook-up got out. Or maybe she just wanted people to move on from what happened, so she shifted the attention to the other party involved. And Riley was stealing the attention of her best friend. OH! So here’s a thought. Maybe she and Noah are working together and it was Noah’s job to lure Brooke to the hotel, while Audrey killed Riley. Hmmm…. I don’t know. Maybe too far-fetched. I’m not sure. I just have a feeling about Audrey…

Kieran: This one is so obvious that I almost don’t want to include him in the list. Mysterious new boy shows up right as the murders start. Son of the sheriff. Has a criminal record that we don’t know about. I feel like we’re being set-up to believe he’s the killer, even though he’s not. But, I don’t know… I felt like I still had to include him to the list. You got me, writers/MTV. Nicely played.

And on an unrelated from the killer plot, I’m interested to see what scheme Tyler, Will, and… oh gosh, I can’t remember his name… the other popular guy that’s super sketchy and weird, are up to. I have a feeling they may be selling amateur porn by filming their classmates unawares. I’m not really sure what they’re up to at this point, but they’re definitely guilty of something terrible, even if it’s not murder.

Regardless of who the killer is, I’m loving how the show keeps me guessing and looking for clues every week. There are so many unanswered questions in the show- not just in regards to the killer or who the next victim will be. And it’s definitely got a hold of my attention! I’m excited for more!
